Plumbing Tips When Building a New Home

While building a home, it is essential to plan plumbing as it needs to be in place before the concrete foundation is laid. It is essential that you follow the standard building codes of Columbia while installing your plumbing system. To ensure this, you’ll have to ensure that your plumber is licensed and is knowledgeable about your neighborhood’s requirements.

Plumbing systems in your house

There are two main systems that need planning. The water distribution/supply system brings water into your home. This includes supplying water to the kitchen, laundry system, bathrooms etc. The other system is the drain/waste system that flushes out waste and sewage from your homes.

Sturdier pipes replace metal ones

In many homes, the distribution system which mostly used expensive copper pipes are increasingly seeing pipe replacements to a cheaper alternative called CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride). The CPVC pipes offer benefits like natural insulating properties, maintenance of water quality and anti-corrosive properties. The waste systems are also seeing pipe replacements to a more rigid PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene).

Keep future needs in mind

While plumbing a new home, care should be taken to plan ahead for future needs and house expansion. For example if you decide to build an extra bathroom, care should be taken so that routing pipes and access to existing pipes becomes easy in the future to avoid unnecessary pipe replacements. While planning plumbing, ensure you make use of shut-off valves at various points. By doing this, you can cut-off the water supply to a particular line or appliance without shutting off the water supply to the entire house.
