Upon arrival, the HVAC system was not cooling and in a hard lockout state. The initial step involved resetting the system and connecting digital gauges to assess its performance. The system was found to be cooling within the expected range, indicating that the issue might not be related to the compressor or major components. However, high head pressure was detected, which could suggest a possible issue with the thermal expansion valve (TXV). Despite efforts to diagnose the TXV, conclusive evidence of its malfunction could not be obtained during the visit. Recommendations were provided to the client for further investigation and potential replacement of the TXV to resolve the high head pressure issue. The system was left in a safe and operational state, with clear instructions for monitoring and follow-up actions.
